Hi all,
Val’s first day of chemo was long but went very well. No exciting allergic reactions; not much discomfort except some aching in her arm during the infusion of one drug; good spirits; visits from friends; attentive medical staff. (Also, as an extra bonus, it turns out there’s a farmer’s market across the street on Wednesday afternoons, so we came home with all sorts of spectacular produce!) We began the pre-infusion consultation at 7:00 a.m. and didn’t get out till after 5:00 this afternoon. Lots more info was flung our way so I’m hoping over the weekend to try to start making some sense of it.
A wide variety of delightful side effects may show up any time in the next three weeks, and her energy is likely to drop precipitously in the third week, but several nurses emphasized that we should call any time, with any question or concern, and that they will address any discomforts promptly and creatively.
I am absolutely exhausted (and so grateful for the gorgeous dinner that arrived on our doorstep after we made it home). And Val? She’s in the backyard playing music with friends.

Here’s to getting through the first day. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Hooray for friends and music and a good night’s sleep (I hope!).

First day done. Home and rest. I will be thinking of you and visualizing the cancer getting smaller and smaller and imagining your lungs free and clear.
Thank you for opening up this space. Even though we are far apart I feel connected. Sending love from the far north.

Hooray for music in the backyard and drugs at work. May they do as they are intended.
I don’t have a sense of when you might feel bad, but the best remedy for an upset stomach in this part of the world (upset in any of a variety of ways) is Camomille tea (Manzanilla in Spanish). Good for what ails ya. I’m drinking some now.
Also, for smiles, see my flickr page where I posted a video of Tulley from my visit. You can find me under “Rosilyne”.
