Now I’m in Montana too. Flew in to Kalispell yesterday (thanks, S, for the miles), picked up the car at the airport (following Brooke’s photgraphic clues, feeling like a spy) and drove up to the ranch. At the moment the household contains siblings Val, Brad, Sandy and Jane; parents Miles and Betty; and me. Betty reclines in an easy chair, drifting in semi-consciousness, and occasionally murmurs a desire for water. We try to help manage her pain and her physical comfort. Val’s home oxygen concentrator stands against a wall in the hallway, upright and proper as a butler, making soothing tidal noises. Outside the big windows we have seen bulls, white-tailed deer, a herd of elk, and an assortment of birds ranging from finches to pileated woodpeckers. Also beautiful mountains.
I’m very glad to be here.
Love,
Deborah
