hidden landscapes

Hello, my dears.

Over the Fourth of July weekend we dedicated a carved stone for Val, on the ridge overlooking her family ranch. She built many cairns on that ridge over the years, and last year we climbed over the jumbled rock piles, rebuilding her tumbled cairns and raising new ones. This summer we brought the carved stone to add to the central ridge cairn. It’s on a favorite spot of hers overlooking the meadow, woods and hills she loved. Miles, Val’s dad, had a friend with a backhoe dig up a boulder that Val liked to sit on (with him/her mom/me, and others) from the end of the ridge, and bring it to the mid-ridge cairn. Val’s brother Jerry (with help from many of us) set the carved rock in cement on the boulder. We said some words, wept and laughed, and missed her in each other’s company.
