We had a marvelous day today, hiking with friends in the Tom McCall Nature Preserve east of Hood River. Val and I try to go every spring to lose ourselves in the wildflowers and the wind. Both were in abundance today.
The flowers were dazzling – lupine, Indian paintbrush, balsamroot, bachelor’s buttons, Columbia desert parsley and plenty we couldn’t name.
I think it was our first day not ruled by fear. There was plenty of crying and hugging but also laughter, dumb jokes (and a few great ones), and grace-ful moments of losing ourselves in the beauty of this world.
I think we might sleep well tonight.
