increasingly visible

Val’s hair began to let go its moorings on Saturday.

Early this week she went to a professional to have it shaved short, so the tender follicles wouldn’t be so often tugged. But the hair kept falling, coming away in tufts at the gentlest touch, so Thursday she asked me to shave it down to a quarter inch.

Going, going…

2. ok, I\'ll smile 3. scrutiny 4. comes out in her fingers

And today… gone.

looks like this awkward spot here I am

(The whole series of pictures can be seen here.)

Now hidden territories are revealed. I had heard about the episode with the monkey bars that left her with the scar on top of her scalp. But who knows the tale of the small wriggly scar on the back of her head? Do I see any hands?

Today’s episode brought to you by an increased emphasis on sunscreen.

  1. small wriggly scar…jeez, the possibilities are endless! could it be from one of the trips val, my sisters and I took down Indian Creek and the irrigation ditch in inner-tubes? Or maybe one of the sledding crash-tastrophes? Or maybe from the time Val sped down Burma Road on a brake-less 10-speed, long hair flying behind her, finally landing upside down in the roadside ditch, bike wheels spinning in the air? There must be a hundred of these stories.
PS-As the youngest kid in the bunch, I always wanted to be fearless like Val.
