I am sorry to have never met Val but glad to have read of her journey and yours too.
What a transition for you, Deborah. You’ll no longer need that “don’t leave home without it notebook” and there are so many things and one special person you are no longer responsible for.
In the six months since my mother’s death I still sometimes start to phone at noon to make a check-in call and at the doctor’s recently I had to stop myself from giving Mom’s birth date when they asked for mine. There are so many things…
Deborah, what an amazing person you are and what a heartbreaking journey you have endured. I have heard of your loving, gracious spirit through my dearest friend Brooke. The few times I texted with Val she said she felt cared for, loved and grateful for all of you. Take care of your heart.
To quote this very blog… from a June 2008 entry…”but maybe we are learning that it is not about salvation. but the truths we find along the way. and whether we will meet the new languages demanded of us.”
So much Truth discovered in the experience, the process, the opening/sharing, the tears/laughter, and especially in the community. As if Val hadn’t already touched a large number of people, this Journey on which you both embarked together, penetrated deeper and farther than I have before witnessed with a group. Yes, you meet the languages! In fact, I believe you created a few of your own.
Thank you for sharing your process and Val’s too. I knew her in Anchorage and will never forget her smile. Candle, prayers and goddesses blessings for Val, you, and all her wonderful friends and family that were there thru the hard times.
